Law aspirants with a desire to study in the best National Law University cannot miss Common Law Admissions Test (CLAT). This is conducted by the National Law Schools/Universities for admissions to their under-graduate programme (LL. B).

CLAT is a 2 hour exam with 200 questions. A candidate must have a minimum of 45% (40% for SC/ST) for +2 or equivalent for admission to UG course. The application is to be submitted online.

CLAT exam comprises of 5 sections. They are: English, General Knowledge and Current Affairs, Mathematics, Legal Aptitude and logical reasoning. The question break for the 5 sections is as follows:

  • English – 40
  • General Knowledge- 50
  • Mathematics – 20
  • Logical Reasoning- 40
  • Legal Aptitude – 50

All questions carry 1 mark each and there is a negative marking of 0.25 for every wrong answer.

Preparation

Once you decide to write CLAT start the preparation . Most of the aspirants start their preparation from 11th standard. The subject matter is not tough but the time to solve the questions is high. So practice, proper strategy and time management are important during the preparation. Mock test is an essential part of the preparation. It tells you where you stand and helps you with time distribution and improvement on speed and efficiency.
