The pollution levels in China has declined. This has been confirmed by the satellite images of NASA. The economic slowdown due to coronavirus is cited as the reason. The factory activities have slowed down after the coronavirus outbreak.
The satellite maps have shown a decrease in nitrogen dioxide, a noxious gas emitted by motor vehicles and industrial facilities. The restriction imposed on the transportation and business activities also contributed to the reduction in pollution level.
Earlier pollution level dropped during China’s Lunar New Year celebrations in late January and early February. Fei Liu, an air quality researcher at Nasa’s Goddard Space Flight Center, said “This year, the reduction rate is more significant than in past years and it has lasted longer. I am not surprised because many cities nationwide have taken measures to minimise spread of the virus.”
