Cravings for unhealthy junk food??

So what is junk food? It is used to describe food and drinks low in nutrients (e.g. vitamins, minerals and fibre) and high in kilo joules, saturated fat, added sugar and/or added salt. Also they are known discretionary choices.

When we go shopping for food at a grocery store, we tend to put things into the cart, without reading the ingredients .  Especially in case of junk food like chips, cookies, etc. What you want to do is start reading these labels . And understand how much unhealthy fats, salts and sugars these foods have.  Also, this habit can make you more aware and thus help you avoid junk food.

You have to keep this in mind- Eating junk food on a regular basis can lead to an increased risk of obesity and chronic diseases like cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and some cancers. Understand that junk food is taking the place of other more nutritious foods in our diets.

The foods and beverages that contain sugary is the single worst ingredient in the modern diet. So try to avoid this as much as you can . Moreover, when people drink sugar calories, the brain won’t consider them as food. You can have water, soda water, coffee or tea  as an alternate . Also, adding a slice of lemon to water or soda water can add some taste if you don’t like it plain.

And  a study found that,  it takes about 21 days for the brain to form any habit, when done regularly. So, make a conscious effort to avoid junk food every day by forming a new routine. The brain automatically get used to this. For example, if you are used to going out to have unhealthy snacks at 4 PM every day, make an effort to go for a walk.  So after some days you used to this new routine. It’s a sure thing. Just give it a try!
