Cricketer Gautam Gambhir announces retirement

After 15 years of successful career in Indian Cricket, Gautam Gambhir announced his retirement on 4th December 2018.  Moreover, he announced his decision in a video post on his twitter account.

ISRO successfully launched GSAT-11 (Big Bird) from French Guiana

ISRO successfully launched GSAT-11 (Big Bird), India’s heaviest communication satellite, on 5th Dec from the Spaceport in French Guiana, South America.  This satellite is considered to provide internet access and data communications for India.

India and UAE sign agreement on currency swap

At the 12th session of the India-UAE Joint Commission Meeting (JCM) for Economic and Technical Cooperation, India and UAE signed two agreements.  In this, one of them was the pact on currency swap.  Accordingly, the countries can trade in their own currency and payments to import and export trade at a pre-determined exchange rate without bringing in a third benchmark currency like the US dollars. The session was held on December 3-4, 2018 in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates.

India’s Longest Rail-Road Bridge: Bogibeel Bridge

Its decided that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Bogibeel Bridge, India’s longest rail-road bridge, on December 25.  The Bogibeel Bridge is a combined road and rail bridge over the Brahmaputra River in Assam.  This connects the north and south banks of the Brahmaputra.  The bridge is 4.94 km long.

Salman Khan Tops Forbes’ Richest Indian Celebrity List 2018

Superstar Salman Khan has again topped the list as the richest Indian celebrity for the third year in the row.  This is as per the Forbes India Celebrity 100 list – 2018. There’s also an add on surprise factor, which is Deepika Padukone has moved up seven places from #11 last year to #4 now, knocking out many male stars in the list.

World Soil Day – 5 December

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) celebrates 5th December as the World Soil Day at its head quarters in Rome.  The UN created this day so as to make people aware of the soil pollution and to make them join forces to combat it.
