Know about Prediabetes

Prediabetes is a condition characterized by elevated or higher than normal blood glucose levels, but not high enough to be diagnosed with diabetes. It is often an indication that a person is at risk of progressing to Type 2 diabetes. If you have prediabetes and do not make lifestyle modifications, you may develop Type 2 diabetes within 10 years. Therefore, if you have been diagnosed with prediabetes, the first thing you should do is to consult a doctor and incorporate the suggested diet and lifestyle modification.

If you receive a prediabetes diagnosis, it means you have a higher-than-normal blood sugar level. But, it’s not high enough to be diagnostic . If you don’t get treatment for it, prediabetes can lead to type 2 diabetes heart disease, and stroke.

Moreover, it’s important to consult your doctor if you experience:
  • always hunger
  • increased urination mainly on night time
  • blurred vision
  • sores or cuts that won’t heal

So if you ask why it happens, we can explain. We know that  pancreas releases a hormone called insulin . So when you eat that the cells of your body can take the sugar from the blood into the cells for energy. And that’s how insulin helps lower your blood sugar level. Also, in the case of prediabetes, the cells don’t respond properly to insulin. Such condition is called insulin resistance.

Treating it can prevent type 2 diabetes. If your doctor diagnoses you with prediabetes, they’ll recommend certain lifestyle changes. And a study showed a reduction of approximately 58 percent in people who kept up with these changes in the long term.
