Kobe Bean Bryant (41), American professional basketball player and his daughter Gianna (13) died in a helicopter crash Sunday in Calabasas, California, near Los Angeles. Bryant and his daughter were headed to the Mamba Sports Academy in Thousand Oaks, California.
A shooting guard, Bryant played his entire 20-year career in the National Basketball Association (NBA) with the Los Angeles Lakers. He entered the NBA directly from high school. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest basketball players of all time.
The latest updates say the crash killed 9 people including the pilot. The helicopter that crashed, had the feel of a limousine and boasted a strong safety record, said the basketball star’s former pilot Kurt Deetz. He flew Bryant from 2014 to 2016.
The crash site is not easily accessible and the recovery effort is expected to take several days. Officials have shut down roads leading to the site because of a throng of visitors trying to get there.
