Myanmar bats have six new coronaviruses says a news study. Though these six viruses belong to the same family as the SARS-CoV-2 virus that is currently spreading it is different genetically. This was revealed during part of a government-funded program called PREDICT. this program is to identify infectious diseases that have the potential to hop from animals to humans.
More study is required to understand the potential for these six newfound viruses. Only then can we understand its capability to move to other species and how they might impact human health. Not all coronaviruses pose threat to humans. But detection in source gives the opportunity to investigate the potential threat. The interaction with wildlife is increasing. So what enables the viruses that get transmitted to humans mutate and spread require further studies.
