All kids are special but some are extra special. Those who are extra special require extra care also. These are kids with disabilities such as learning disorders, speech impaired, visually challenged, autism, emotional disturbance etc. They require not just medical help but also teachers who understand their special needs and teach them with care.

There are various schools across the country for students with special needs. The teachers here are trained to help these students learn better. The syllabus in these schools are designed in such a way the students can understand the topics easily. Special care and attention is provided to these kids for their studies. The strength and weakness are recognized using the evaluation in methods. Help to develop the confidence, understand the strength and confidence to overcome the weakness are provided to the children. Teachers in these schools require special training to meet these special requirements. They use different teaching procedures and materials.

Bachelor of Education in Special Education (B.Ed. Special Education) is an undergraduate education course for teaching children with special needs. The course equips the teachers in a way to address individual differences and needs.  

For applying for this course the candidate must be a graduate with minimum 50%. The applicant must have one school subject at the graduate level or post-graduate level. The school subjects are Hindi, English, Sanskrit, Science (Physics, Chemistry), Biology (Zoology, Botany), Mathematics, Economics, Commerce, History, Geography, Political Science (or Civics) and Home Science.

Teachers can pursue master’s degree in special education and specialize in teaching kids with autism, hearing problems, speech problems, behavioural disorders, traumatic injuries, emotional disturbances etc.

Based on the institute the selection procedure varies. Usually it is through an entrance test.
